FAQ

What is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)

A BCBA is well trained and highly educated in the field of ABA.   A BCBA will have

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field
  • Masters’ degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis from an Accredited University
  • Minimum of 1500 hours of supervised clinical experience.  (Working with clients, designing
  • programs and training others in the principles and techniques of ABA).

Why do I need a BCBA?

  • Ethics:  A BCBA is required to work in accordance with the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behaviour Analysts (The Code).
  • Experience:  The Code requires all BCBA’s to complete continuing education requirements which ensure that they keep up to date with new research.

Is my child old enough for ABA?

The evidence shows that ABA should be started as soon as possible, young children make significant improvements from as young as 2 years old.

Should I do parent led ABA or find a tutor?

Before the Pandemic, most families would use a combination of parent led and tutor led ABA.  Since 2023 however tutors have been very difficult to find in this region. For this reason I now predominantly work with families who want parent led ABA. Parents are given full training and guidance in how to do the ABA program. I am also available by text or email when ever a question or problem crops up.

The current lack of tutors should not put you off beginning ABA with your child. Recent research (see below) also shows that families who become involved in their child’s program typically see better results.  If you do find a tutor, we can easily include them in your child’s ABA program.
